This newsletter will make you think critically about the creation of desirable products.
The name, Crafting Human Desirability, comes from IDEO’s Design Thinking paradigm of innovation.
Tl;dr, if you’re someone who wants to systematically be able to make things that people want, I’ll send you my most intriguing and valuable revelations as they come. They’ll probably be things like:
Observations from reaching product/market fit (and failing to) multiple times
Secrets from conversations I’ve had with top design thinkers from Facebook, Dropbox, Shopify, Clio, and more.
Practical design advice from the theoretical to the tangible (e.g. visual design)
Occasional tangential thoughts on career, success, and life
You probably want to know why you should subscribe, who I am, and more—so keep reading and hopefully I’ll have convinced you by the end of this page. If not, I have a photo of my dog that’s sure to convince you.
Who I am
Fantastic question. I started as a graphic designer, and about a decade ago moved into product design. I’ve scaled a Series A B2C company from 10K MAUs and $0 revenue to millions of users and revenue. My articles regularly generate 40K+ views on Medium, and I write for Startup Grind and 3 of the top 5 publications with a collective reach of >1m.
I’ve never worked for a giant tech company (all my companies have been sub 200 headcount) because I’ve spent my 10-year career finding product/market fit in startups—but I’ve been mentored by design directors from Shopify, Dropbox, Clio, and more.
My last 30-day stats:
I’ve also started a B2B startup, reaching 100+ paying businesses and 400+ upvotes on Product Hunt.
I’m now Head of Design for an Accel-backed seed startup in the travel space. While I like writing for the masses, I’m starting to crave deeper product design discussions and I hope to be able to manufacture that here. Hence, my own newsletter!
If you’re so inclined, I’ll eventually also have a paid version where I’ll share more technical product design lessons & interviews I’ve had with top designers around the world. I’ve been having these discussions a lot but can’t really justify the time to my wife to write, so your paid sub will help with that :)
Testimonials
You’re skeptical - and rightfully so! Hopefully some of these comments from designers on Medium will help.
